reunion facebook: one day left
Ok, all you procrastinators, this is your final deadline! If this book is going to get done, I need your pages by FRIDAY, JULY 8th. This is a firm deadline, as I will be moving the week after that and will not have time to work on the book.

Also, when all the pages are compiled, they will be posted on the Reunion Website, so you don't have to pay for a copy if you do not want to. I will still be making copies and bringing them to the reunion for those who prefer their books on paper.

As always, let me know if you have questions!
Love,
Estelle

reunion CD
As the message board has been so busy lately with reminders and updates etc, I thought I would pitch in with me two cents worth. For everyone still interested in the Reunion CD, please send all musical suggestions to my private e-mail address with song names and artists. I’ve had a couple of suggestions so far, but not very many, so I need your help!!!

Thanks guys! I look forward to seeing you all next month!

travel fund update
This is going to be a great reunion, and we need your help to bring as many people as we can. For the travel fund, so far we have raised $700 to help out classmates in need. However, we still need more funds in order to bring several enthusiastic classmates who are struggling to afford their travels from far away.

Thank you everyone who has already contributed but if you haven’t, please consider contributing on-line at https://web.uwc-usa.org/forms/alumni_05reuniontravelfund.htm

And for everyone who needs assistance for your travels, then please contact one of us on the travel fund committee, by July 3rd. We will be happy to consider your request. When you contact them, please send them the answers to the following three questions:
These answers will help us decide how to distribute the funds based on the criteria that have been set. We will respond to your request by July 11th. Remember to reply to an individual person on the travel fund committee. All information will be kept confidential by the committee.

Cheers,
Travel Fund Committee

a few items from Montezuma
1. The deadline for extended stay is July 1st. They need a minimum of 30 people to have extended stay as an option. There are currently 15 people signed up. So if you are registered and toying with the idea of extended stay or if you haven't registered at all yet, now is the time.

2. Face Book- whether or not you are going to the reunion, please send Estelle your face book form and photo as the deadline is fast approaching.

3. There are two activities that need alumni support, organization:

One is a Saturday night talent show. Tony Purvis did a fabulous performance last year and was a huge success. I know we have talent in our class... Is anyone in touch with Dan Darling? If you would like to perform in any capacity, please let me know as soon as you can. To go along with this, if you have created music, visual art, film, photography or other talent that you don't want to do live but would like to share at the reunion, please let me know, i.e. Subi will be bringing some of her films. Even if you are not attending but would like to send something in lieu of you (MuRan- we want to play your CD!!) please let me know as well.

The other is an alumni forum. Below is the description:

This event was highly recommended in last year's feedback form. Ideas suggested for this session included how pertinent the UWC ideals are years after graduation, whether grads still implement these ideals in their daily lives, the influence the UWC had on their lives, the current relevance of the mission statement - and any other philosophical aspects of UWC life that might seem relevant to you. We need alumni interested in facilitating this event in order to host this event!

There is concern about where the UWC is headed- concern with IB scores, less emphasis on national days and world affairs fora etc. This is our chance to have first crack at a brand new president and to let her know what the UWC did for us and how we envision the UWC's mission.

4. And what would it be to get an email from me that did have a plug for the class gift. There is another matching opportunity- dollar for dollar match and the deadline for that is the end of the reunion. But here's the rub, all four reuniting classes must combine for a total of $30,000. Right now we have about half that. So if you haven't yet given, please help us reach that goal. Again, the website is https://web.uwc-usa.org/forms/makeagift_online.htm. A few reminders on class gift:

Thanks for your support, all.
Kathryn

alumni travel fund
Like all of you, we are super excited to see everyone at the reunion. Can you believe it has already been ten years since the last time we were all together, waving goodbye and wondering if we would ever see each other again? But while you make your travel plans to reunite, we urge you all to consider helping out some of our classmates who will be having a hard time making it.

Some of our classmates will be coming from very far away, and at the moment some of them don’t have enough money to pay for their travels. A few classmates have already voiced their concern that they will not be able to afford the US$1,000 or more that it will cost them to get to Montezuma. But don’t worry – that’s why there is an alumni travel fund! This fund is designed to ensure that people who need assistance with their travel costs will be able to receive it from us, their former classmates.

However, it is our duty to make sure that the travel fund has enough money to provide for classmates in need. Therefore, we urge you to please contribute whatever you can. We recommend that you give a minimum of $30, or more if you can afford it. The more that we all contribute then the more our classmates will be able to afford their trip to the reunion.

Non-monetary contributions are also welcome and greatly appreciated. These may include the donation of extra frequent-flyer miles, or help in driving classmates to and from the reunion. Please contact one of us (the travel fund coordinators) if you may be able to contribute in any of these or other ways.

You can find more information about the travel fund at the UWC-USA website. In addition, you can contribute on-line with a credit card by using the Reunion Travel Fund Form.

If you need help with covering your travel expenses then please contact one of the four of us on the Travel Fund Committee. We will distribute all of the money that is raised to those of us who need it the most and would not otherwise be able to make it.

Cheers,
The Travel Fund Committee,
Kathryn (Holmgard) Shaffner
Mel Rader
Clio Knowles
Mike Leach

P.S. In addition, if you contribute toward the reunion challenge fund now (different from the travel fund), then your donation will be quadrupled! For each dollar contributed before May 31st, 2005, trustee Moore will contribute US$1 and Shelby will contribute US$2. See the alumni giving page for details. Unfortunately, this offer does not apply to the travel fund, and currently there are no matching donations available for this fund. So please, give generously!

the face book
It's finally here! This is your chance to set the record straight about where you've been the last 10 years, not have to repeat the same story to 100 people at the reunion, and to get back in touch with old friends!

I've attached the template in Word and PDF format. Please fill out the form, and email or mail it back to me, by JULY 8, 2005. I will then compile them into a book. I expect the cost of this book to be under $10 per copy, based on what it cost Preeta to do the face-book last year. Please be prepared to reimburse me the cost of your copy.

REUNION ATTENDEES: You will get your copy of the face-book at the reunion.
NOT ATTENDING REUNION: If you would like a copy of the face-book, email me and I will send the book to you. I will email you the PayPal account information to cover the cost of your printing.

Some things to keep in mind:

If you have any additional questions about the facebook, email Estelle for more information.

to get you all in the mood -- some photos from last year (you may have to increase the width of your browser for the pictures to appear properly).

the snazzy new castle -- all remodeled and looking nothing like what we remember.

[i can't even explain where this last one is -- you'll just have to see it when you get there. (imagine the space up behind meredith house. then imagine there had been a "field house" there instead. see, it's all too implausible to picture -- and this isn't even where the pool is located.)]
